My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Confirmation marks the point in the Christian journey at which an individual affirms for himself or herself the faith into which he or she has been baptized and his or her intention to live a life of committed discipleship. This affirmation is confirmed through prayer and the laying on of hands by the confirming bishop. The Church also asks God to give you power through the Holy Spirit to enable you to live in the way of Jesus.
In preparation for this public profession of faith there are a variety of traditions of preparation. Preparation in some traditions takes only a few weeks while in others a period of 2-3 years. The time of preparation is generally related to the age of the individual, an adult over the age of 18 studies with the Pastor for a period of weeks while someone in Middle or High School journeys with the Pastor in a time of study for a period of 2-3 years. The end of the study culminates in a public profession of faith with the Bishop of the Diocese presiding over the service and confirming each individual in his faith.
As we are now in a period between visits of the Bishop, I am offering the following opportunities of study in preparation for confirmation of one’s faith. I am flexible and need your feedback on when to conduct classes.
The basic outline of instruction of the classes is Biblical overview, doctrine, and worship. The total time for the course of instruction I am looking at is roughly an 18-month period or until the Bishop comes again. Remember this will include time off for holidays and summer.
Adults — depending on the number of adults who are interested, I need to know what day of the week and time of day that works best for everyone. From there we will work on a schedule.
Middle and High School — Please let me know the following: Classes together or separate? 12 to 1 on Sundays for 2-Sundays a month? After school on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, say 4-5pm (negotiable)?
Please let me know your interest and we will set up the classes.
Yours in Christ,
Fr Tim+
